Harvard Medical Study Concludes Online Poker Not Increasing Addiction To Gambling
A recent study conducted at Harvard Medical School, Division of Addictions has drawn the conclusion that regardless of the fact that internet gambling has exploded literally exponentially in the United States and globally, online gamblers are not at more risk for developing a gambling addiction. Opponents of internet gambling have long argued that being able to wager and play online poker from the comfort of home would lead to more degenerate players and gambling addicts.
On the contrary, and in a surprising development the study has concluded that in fact the opposite is true! Studying the results of the Harvard Medical Study, researchers found that the overwhelming majority of gamblers actually seem to show more restraint with online gambling than when in an actual casino.
Despite the explosion in online gambling worldwide both internet and brick and mortar based, the study also found that the rate of “problem gamblers” has stayed the same – indicating that the rate of players who gamble without control or restraint has remained steady at about 0.7 percent.

Dr. Shaffer also goes on to claim that continued prohibition of online gambling is unenforceable and the vast majority of Americans believe in their “free” right to gamble online. Now we only hope the politicians in Washington can look away from their bank account balance long enough to “represent the people” and legalize online gambling, we believe that day is coming soon.
